Raphaël Feuillâtre: Latin Passions

While developing my SF Bay Area Events search program, I discovered Raphaël Feuillâtre was playing at Stanford's Bing Concert Hall. I listened to him on YouTube and looked up his program, and it matched my interest in classical guitar.

Born in Djibouti in 1996 and raised in Cholet, France, Feuillâtre trained at the Paris Conservatoire. He attracted international attention in 2018 by winning the Guitar Foundation of America's International Concert Artist Competition. He joined Deutsche Grammophon in 2022, and his first recording for the label, Visages baroques, followed in 2023, exploring music by Bach and other Baroque composers.

The concert started at 19:30 with a 20-minute intermission. Raphaël played very well, but he lacked the energy of someone like Lucas Imbiriba. I enjoyed the concert (especially the first half of the program, which focused on famous Spanish composers like Francisco Tárrega and Isaac Albéniz).
